A Concept Map is a tool for organizing and representing knowledge in a graphical way. They help you to understand new things relative to the things that you already know. Concept maps were developed in the 1970s based on the research of Joseph Novak at Cornell University.
Concept maps are not mind maps. A mind map is a hierarchy centered around a single central topic. A concept map is more free form where each concept could be a center or hub within a network of concepts.
There are many good examples of concept maps on the web. This one was particularly interesting to me. It’s a concept map of concept maps.
